July 14, 2010 Update of the Report Titled, Disinformation Cancer Epidemic, May 2010, Cancer Action NY
On the date of July 9th, 2010, I spoke with Dr. Timothy Hack and his assistant Annabell Allison, in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Center for Environmental Health/Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, Office of Policy, Planning and Evaluation. Ms. Allison updated me on the accomplishments of the Office of Policy, Planning and Evaluation in working to facilitate my efforts to bring about the changes in Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) dioxin/cancer documents discussed in detail in the Disinformation Cancer Epidemic report. These accomplishments include: (1) the ToxFAQs for Dioxins was updated in February of 2010 so as to be reflective of the content of the Public Health Statement on Dioxins that was published in conjunction with the 1998 ATSDR Toxicological Profile for Dioxins; and (2) ATSDR has commenced the production of a state of scientific knowledge Toxicological Profile for Dioxins.
As of July 9th, 2010, no final decision had been reached concerning the Cancer Action NY request that the Chemical Agent Briefing Sheet for Dioxins be supplemented so as to make know the fact that the Minimal Risk Levels set forth in this document were not relevant to cancer endpoint.
Cancer Action NY is pleased to see this progress toward using science to prevent cancer. We encourage all interested parties of good intentions to become involved in the process of creating the new Toxicological Profile.
