Celebrating and Planning the Next Steps for Open Waste Burning Elimination in New York State

A Potluck Dinner Celebrating the Establishment of a Statewide Ban on Open Waste Burning in New York State
(A meeting will follow the dinner at which we will discuss how to quickly eliminate open burning with dual enforcement and educational campaigns.)

Wednesday, October 14, 2009

Albany, New York, USA

On October 14th, the newly created New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) regulation banning open waste burning statewide will take full effect.  This celebration is a way to honor the Earth, good health, activism, good government, science, and regulatory enforcement.  Once October 14th has arrived, NYS DEC Dispatchers will be able to send out environmental conservation officers (ECOs) to warn violators against any future burning.  According to Department sources, the DEC will ease this regulation into being by first issuing warnings to violators.  Those that do not heed the warning will be ticketed and fined.  When you find a trash fire burning in your New York, call NYS DEC Dispatch to eliminate this polluting activity.
